Yes, this could be your issue. it aids in the speedometer and powertrain control module . if the power train control is not senseing any movement from that wheel it could keep it from engaging the four wheeel drive to avoid possibly burning out the transfer case. Definatley something to check.

In particular I found an unprotected wire harness disconnected by the passanger side rear wheel that was broke, after stripping this wire and reconnecting it, it turned on the 4-wheel drive. Make sure the truck is off and it is in 2 wheel mode when this is reconnected it could cause a blown fuse or an electric shock.

With the 4×4 not engaging however I think one of your wheel sensor is bad. Occasionaly mine did the samething. So when my front transfer case seal blew. I used that as an opportunity to replace the 2 4wd drive sensors here on the transfer case.

Problem was that they couldn’t properly diagnose the issue because the whole system was shutting down. Finally, they ordered 4 new sensors, replaced them & went over all the wiring. Conclusion: A few of the sensors going bad and a bad connector was causing the whole system to shut down. Everything is now working properly.
