Why is the top hose hot and the bottom hose cold?
Any idea why the top hose would be very hot while the bottom one ( and also the bottom of the radiator is cold while the top of it is hot). Its a new radiator by the way. When to run hot or cold radiator hoses?
Both should be hot if circulation is occurring and the water pump should be circulating the water unless the engine is not running, but possibly not through the radiator or does not reach operating temperature.
Why is my lower radiator hose not running?
If your car is overheating and at the same time won’t heat the lower coolant hose – You most likely have a problem with your thermostat, which needs to get replaced. The thermostat should be closed when the engine is cold and not running.
Is the bottom of the radiator hot or cold?
It may take up to 30 seconds for the thermostat to react and partially close, restricting the flow of coolant from the radiator into the engine. The bottom radiator hose should be cold, or maybe warm on very hot days.
Is the lower radiator hose hot or cold?
The upper radiator hose is extremely hot, the lower radiator hose is cold. The thermostat has been replaced 3 times now. They have all been put in boiling water, and they all opened. The car has been parked on an inclined and filled with coolant, been jacked up and filled, we’ve used the cap to vent, we’ve used the bleeder to vent.
Why is there no flow through the cooling system?
It overheats, and there doesn’t appear to be flow through the cooling system. The upper radiator hose is extremely hot, the lower radiator hose is cold. The thermostat has been replaced 3 times now. They have all been put in boiling water, and they all opened.
What does it mean when your car coolant hose is cold?
The engine needs to be really hot and almost overheat before the thermostat lets the coolant pass by. If your car is not overheating, but the lower coolant hose is cold when you feel it – it may just mean that it is not hot enough, and therefore there is nothing wrong with your engine.
What causes water to overflow from the radiator?
The car still overheats. Again, upper hose hot, lower cold. The radiator is cold by the lower hose, then warm in an arc around the cold section, then hot along the top and on the entire passenger half of the radiator. Radiator fluid overflowed the overflow.
What causes a cold radiator hose to overheat?
You may finally be forced to purchase a new radiator after performing this leak repairs. A cold lower radiator hose will cause an overheating problem. The cause of this varies with the main culprits being a leaked hose radiator pipe, a faulty thermostat or hindered coolant circulation.
Is the bottom hose of an Audi hot or cold?
The car in question I a Audi 1.9 tdi. When you drive the car the temp rises and rises. The top hose is hot/pressurised but the bottom hose is stone cold. Thermostat has bern changed but the problem persists.
Is the top of the radiator hot or cold?
You’re in the right place, all your questions are covered here. The top radiator hose is usually but not always the location of the thermostat. Either-way, the top hose gets hot after the thermostat has opened. The time the thermostat takes to open depends upon factors such as:

Why does my lower radiator blow out cold air?
Lower Radiator Hose Cold: Potential Causes that are Doing this! Car problems can put people into great worries. If your car’s lower radiator suddenly blows out cold air instead of hot, it might make you scratch your head.
