Why is the tailgate on my LR4 not opening?

Mine was under warranty and the tech at the dealer knew exactly where to drill a hole through the tailgate panel to release the tailgate. Dealer installed a new actuator and a new carpeted tailgate panel. Ed Rustioni likes this.

With ignition OFF and a door is opened and closed there was a 40 second delay before the control system went into sleep mode. The power draw went from 200mA to 35mA (sleep). Any door left open prevented the sleep mode. Only questions… Might the OB have something similar going on?

The correct solution is to replace the tailgate release handle lock, which requires removing the release rod mechanism. Not a simple fix, but the work around is not too hard and will work as long as you can open the flip up glass lid and you have your trusty heavy duty long handle flat blade screwdriver to pry in the locking latch.

The outside button and inside rear button beep when pressed, unlatch the liftgate, but do not open it. The dash button and key fob buttons do open and close the liftgate. I tried the reset procedure as specified in the manual and disconnected the battery for 20 seconds.

Why does the liftgate not open on a Ford Expedition?
The Ford Expedition has a separate computer/unit that operates the handle button and the button on the inside of the rear compartment. If the terminal is dirty to that unit or the unit is bad it will not function. You need to check for a code. It is likely that there is one set for the malfunction.
