Why is the hood not opening on my Infiniti I30?
1998 Infiniti I30. The lever that you pull inside the cabin to pop the hood is not doing anything. I can pull it back a couple of inches but it is not releasing the hood. I kept on going back and forth between that lever, and the one behind the grill to pop the hood, but it would not release.
Why is the hood release on my Nissan not working?
My hood release latch inside the car is no longer releasing the hood. I’ve inspected the latch itself and don’t think it’s broken – it pulls on the cable as it should and holds the end of the cable as designed. I’ve also manually pulled on the cable with pliers to no effect.

I ended up pulling the cable and sheath through the plastic catch near the latch but the hood eventually opened. He thought the release lock might have rusted or frozen which is why the extra force was required. After spraying some lube on the lock mechanism and replacing the cable in the regular spot it now works fine.

If you are able to spot this, use your trusty screwdriver to try to pop open the lock. You would need to use a fair amount of pressure (not Hulk like though!) to release the lock from its spring assembly. Once you have managed to do this, you can easily slide your hand under the hood, and release the secondary latch and pop open the hood.

What should I do if my car hood opens?
If the hood opens, your cable may have slipped or stretched. Try to adjust it at the front end, or replace it if you see any damage. (Less commonly, your interior release latch could be broken.) If you feel no tension at all, the cable is no longer attached to the front latch. Continue to the next step.
