Why is the CD changer on my Jaguar XJ8 not working?
Had a “CDC Error” caused by the CD changer in boot of XJ6 2004 not being able to eject or change a CD from the fifth track. Removed unit as described above and manually rotated the big gear which cured the error. CD works fine for now although I haven’t tried the fifth track yet.

I have twice now gotten an incorrect gear ratio error that lets me limp home; when the car is restarted, no problem. It is QUITE a problem when you go to accelerate on the highway and the engine just revs. Flipping to a different gear, or in and our of neutral, does nothing. Not even an error message most of the time.

On a side note sold a Mercedes S-430 after spending $7000 on “maintenence” on a car with 80k miles the 2000 Jaguar XJ8 has been a much better car so far! I have exactly the same problem on a 2000 year XJ8, and would be interested to hear if you have identified a solution.
How to fix CD changer on 1998 Jaguar XJ8?
Open the unit like a clamshell at the back of the changer. Using a flashlight illuminate the internals. Spray a SMALL amount of lubricant (I used white lithium grease with long skinny straw attachment) onto the exposed gears and levers inside the unit. Temporarily plug unit into the wire harness and test before re-install.

When activated, it de-energizes the ignition relays in the engine compartment, driver’s side fascia and trunk fuse boxes. It also removes ground inputs from the BPM and windshield wiper stalk switch. So try cycling through all six discs a few times then try ejecting the cassette again. pull the cables out , leave it a minute and put em mack in. With any luck it will do a full mech restart and be back in business. Other trick is to rattle the mag as you eject.
