Why is my torque converter not aligned with the flex plate?
I can barely move it with my finger, which is all I can get into the small hole to turn it. Any help is appreciated. I know you said everything is seated correctly…but if the converter is tight against the flex plate it sounds like the converter is Not seated all the way into the trans.
What’s the easiest way to remount the engine to Transm?
Install all 3 or 4 of these bolts, rotating the engine and torque converter as you go to be sure there is no binding, then torque the flexplate bolts to spec. It will be necessary to rotate the engine (clockwise, looking at the crankshaft damper) several revolutions while this process is completed.
What happens if the bearings are not aligned?
If the block’s main saddles are not aligned, this only makes the main bearings’ life even more tenuous. When a factory or aftermarket block is cast, the main bearing holes are bored and finished to create both the proper housing bore inside diameter (I.D.) and alignment.
How does align hone work on an engine?
A simple align hone will bring all the bores to within a few ten-thousandths of an inch of the desired spec. Measuring the diameter near the parting line will also indicate run-out within the housing. The best way to explain the align-honing procedure is to use a specific engine as an example and go through the process.
Why is transmission alignment important in a Model T Ford?
THE CAREFUL ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING OF THE MODEL T FORD ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION will significantly improve the life of the engine, transmission bearings and the crankshaft. Over the past 30 years or more, we have been besieged with broken Model T Ford crankshafts.
What does it mean when your transmission is in perfect alignment?
This means that the 4th main shaft or tail shaft must be in near perfect alignment to eliminate vibration, performance degradation and damage to the transmission and crankshaft. The alignment of the 4th main bearing has been covered in the literature, but this is only one small part of the problem.
Can a torque converter free wheel during trans installation?
NO RAGRETS!!! No, The converter has to be fully seated in the transmission pump and it has to line up with the flexplate during installation. The converter will not free wheel once the trans is installed. The best way to line it up as by index marks on the block and trans case.

How to line up a torque converter to a flywheel?
When you bolt it to the the flywheel, it will pull out the necessary amount. These guys are all right on the money. Convertor all the way back until the trans is bolted up. There should be a gap between the convertor and the flywheel before you bolt them together. After you bolt it up slide up and grab the lower blower pulley.

How do you put a converter in a car?
Then get the engine about 1/2″ away, get 1 long trans bolt on each side started to draw it close. Once the flexplate is just touching the converter, rotate the engine over and the studs slide against the flex plate then should pop into the holes once it lines up, then tighten the trans bolts and draw it the rest of the way together.
