Why is my shutter valve stuck on my Mazda RX 8?
My car dealer told me I have the following problem – a stuck secondary shutter valve problem because of carbon build up. The Mazda service bulletin describes it as the following: RX 8 has experience a MIL with DTC P2070 (SSV Stuck Open).
Where is the intake valve on an RX8?
The valve is not like normal header valves on in a piston engine. It’s a long solid piece of aluminum with holes drilled in it. It sits in the lower intake manifold and an actuating arm spins it open and closed. It’s not something that would easily crack or be damage.

What happens if IMT valve is stuck open?
The PCM monitors actual valve position to determine if the system is functioning as intended. If the PCM detects that the IMT valve is stuck open, a code P2070 will be stored and a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated. MIL illumination may require multiple ignition cycles with a failure.
