Why is my lift gate open on my Grand Cherokee?

To determine if it is the latch switch or a pinched wire, you will need to remove the liftgate trim panel and disconnect the connector at the latch.
Why is the liftgate on my Jeep not latching?
You will be able to then see where the striker fits up into the latch and then the little arm comes around the striker to latch the two together. If you get the latch unlatched it should latch. Good luck. It’s possible you closed the gate latch while you were wiping down the gate painted areas.
