What happens when the alternator goes on a Nissan 05?

On my 2000 alty when the alternator went the car just died so I wasnt sure if it was the alternator on my 05 since I expected the car to just die if it was the alternator. Guess I’ll just have to wait till tommorrow and see what happens, its just so nerve racking to drive and not know if the car will die.
