Why is it called Cannes Lions?
The first Festival took place in Venice with 187 film entries from 14 countries competing. The Lion of Piazza San Marcos in Venice was the inspiration for the Lion trophy. The second Festival was held in Monte Carlo and then in Cannes in 1956. After that, the Festival took place alternately between Venice and Cannes.

How much does it cost to enter Cannes?
You can buy an individual ticket (8 euros) or a pass (35 euros) for six festival showings from the headquarters at Malmaison on the Croisette or the Cinephile tent or via its website. You have to buy daily tickets on the day of the showing. Full length feature films are shown at The Croisette Theatre.
Who can go to Cannes?
Cannes is unique amongst A-list film festivals in that it’s an event largely reserved for film industry professionals and the press. Accreditation, screenings, and entry to official venues is tightly controlled, with the vast majority of the festival off-limits to the general public.
Is the S silent in Cannes?
Cannes is a small city on the French Riviera located in the south of France. In French, the “es” is silent, however, the “n”s at the end of Cannes must be pronounced with a certain stress, to the point it nearly sounds like cah-nnuh. Also, the “a” at the beginning of Cannes must be pronounced with an open “ah” sound.
