Why does the reverse gear crunch when I start the car?
Starting the engine with the clutch depressed should also mean the gears aren’t spinning and enable you to select reverse without crunching. If selecting a forward gear is very stiff and moving directly from a forward gear to reverse still crunches then it is clear that the clutch is not fully disengaging.
