A true fuse typically consists of a piece of metal, most commonly an encased wire, that actually melts when overheated. This is what stops the fault (aka “short” or “power surge” ).
What should I do if I Blew my Fuse?
The Fix: Make sure the faulty device is unplugged and there is no damage to the outlet. First, test the circuit. Then check for any damage on or around the electrical panel. If you see any damage, call an electrician before doing anything else with it. If there is none, flip the breaker switch back to its operating position.

What does it mean when your turn signal doesn’t work?
My Hazard Lights Don’t Work But the Turn Signals Do The hazard or emergency lights may share the same circuit with the turn signal circuit. When your hazard lights don’t illuminate but the turn signals work, usually you are dealing with a faulty hazard-lights flasher. However, if the flasher unit is working fine, check the fuse.
Is there a turn signal for both left and right?
Although some models use a separate light for the left and right turn indicators, other models use a single light for both turns. If your instrument panel has only one indicator light for both left and right, check the flasher unit. Some vehicle models combine the brake light, taillight and turn signal into one light bulb.

How is the power supply controlled by a fuse?
Each power supply wire is controlled by a switch and a fuse. The fuse is designed to carry no more than the normal current on that circuit: In normal use, the fuse is intact. The current flows through the full circuit, and you use the switch to turn on or off the component.
Checking this with an ohm meter proved that indeed that was the case. Most of the time, a bad back-up light switch will either stay stuck, and lights stay on all the time… or else it won’t work at all, and lights stay off. But this switch had the unique problem (to me, anyway) of grounding out the 12 volt feed when you put the truck in reverse.
