Why does my rear hatch not lock or unlock?
Unfortunately there is no change, it still doesn’t open or lock/unlock. I can tell there is some electrical signal being passed since the car knows when the latch has been manually moved into lock or unlock states (5 beeps when using power locks to indicate unlocked, single beep after manually moving lock). Any suggested next steps?

Hopefully the reason why your Hyundai trunk won’t open with the key fob is because of the valet lock being activated; if not, then unfortunately, you might have an issue with the lock mechanism itself and will most likely need replacing and can cost up to $200 to fix. ??

Have someone stand at the back of the car when locking the doors and listen for the latch actuator to click, if it does click then it’s probably a broken plastic piece on the linkage, if it doesn’t then either you have some bad wiring or the actuator itself may be bad. Some older Foresters (mine) won’t open unless you have pressed the handle really, really hard when closing the latch. Do it right and you hear a good, solid clunk when unlocking. Do it wrong and you hear a feeble attempt.
