What causes a Harley Davidson engine to crap out?
If lean enough, stuttering and mis-firing ensues. This results in running decently at lower demands, but crapping out when engine needs more fuel than the faulted system can provide…stuttering. Soemtines you see engine appearing to run OK until the fuel level in teh tank drops below where the hole in the line is.
Why does the exhaust on a Harley backfire?
The exhaust on a Harley is properly tuned from the factory to function coherently with the engine. As soon as the third-party part or an upgrade is performed on the Harley, it starts behaving unpredictably. This can be in the form of a misfire when starting the engine or backfiring.

RevTech thought it was likely an intake leak, but before I start making a mess with WD40 to check it out, wanted to get some feedback. It seems like an intake leak would make the bike run rough at idle too.
