Why does my golf cart make a clicking noise?

VW changed the gearbox oil and this cured it for about 500 miles but then the noise came back. VW now say the noise is normal – sorry VW, it is not normal on any car I have ever driven. It is a type a) fault I think and it is a generic problem that they need to address.

Why does my VW Golf make a strange noise when I start?
Both my mk1 & mk4 20vt’s make this noise (a grateing sound on start) – as far as i know its clutch dust getting in the starter motor (common on this engine although I may be wrong) and does not necessarily mean its on its way out. VW will change parts whether they need to be or not so my advice is get a trusted independant to check it.
