Why does my cigarette lighter have 12 volts?
Had 12 volts from the plug but only about 5 volts out of the socket, so I conclude the socket is faulty, probably the insulator between the two prongs that go into the plug has blown. So it looks like the solution will be simply to get a new socket at an auto parts store.

I can’t find any relays for the cigarette lighter socket –if there are any for my model (late 95) . Every fuse in the truck seems to be OK. Take the socket out and see if there is 12V at the plug (connector). Now that you have the socket out, use your meter and find out where the continuity stops.
