Why does my car battery not read 12V?
If so, you can measure its density with a hydrometer, a few $. Maybe the terminals need to be cleaned. Maybe a battery cable has broken. Maybe the alternator isn’t working and it isn’t getting a charge. Before you buy a new battery, take it in for a test. Even Walmart auto shops do this free.
What’s the voltage of a 12V car battery?
12v battery reads good voltage but No AMPS – Maintenance/Repairs – Car Talk Community My battery voltage reads 12.7 volts stationary but when i try to start the vehicle it does want to turn over… I tried it with a new battery that reads 12.5 volts and it starts effortless. How can i fix this problem?
What to do if your car battery won’t hold a charge?
Connect the load tester to the positive battery terminal first and then to the negative post. (The positive post will be the larger of the two and will be marked with a “+”.) This will prevent sparking. Switch on the load tester and check to see that the load does not drop below 12 volts.
Can a car run with a lower voltage?
If you have a much larger than stock battery (e.g. stock requirement is 350 cranking amps and you’re using a battery with 600 cranking amps) lower voltages are more likely to still be able to spin the engine as well.
What should battery voltage be when not cranking?
A voltage around 11.7 shows battery only charged to 10% of full capacity. Load testing will reveal the hidden inner secrets of the lead cell. Either load test the battery with a load tester or measure the battery voltage WHILE CRANKING.

Why is my tractor battery not cranking up?
When you get the tractor running again, hold the voltage meter to the batter and it should be reading at least 14V, if not, then your battery isn’t charging. Temperature also has an affect on the amps, so your battery could be reading above 12V but still won’t crank because the amps are too low.
