Where are the fraternity houses at UVA?
Many of the university’s fraternities and sororities are residential, meaning they own or rent a house for their members to use; many of these houses are located on Rugby Road and the surrounding streets, just north of the university.

How do you join a fraternity at UVA?
To be eligible to join a fraternity, a UVA Wise male student must be either 1) an upperclass student or second semester freshman with a 2.50 cumulative GPA or 2) a first semester freshmen with a 2.75 high school academic GPA (as determined by the Office of Admissions).

When was fraternity and Sorority Life at Uva founded?
Fraternity & Sorority Life The Office of the Dean of Students/ Fraternity & Sorority Life was founded in 2001 by an initiative of the Board of Visitors to educate and support our students in recognized chapters as they shape organizations promoting principles of scholarship, leadership, service, diversity, and honor.
When was the fraternities and sororities system created?
First founded in the 1850s with the establishment of a number of fraternities, the system has since expanded to include sororities, professional organizations, service fraternities, honor fraternities, and cultural organizations.
Are there any fraternity chapters that are still active?
Many fraternity chapters were founded during this time that no longer exist at the university, such Alpha Chi Rho, Theta Nu Epsilon, and Delta Chi. Other chapters that are still active were founded at this time as well, such as Theta Chi and Phi Sigma Kappa.
What does the office team at UVA do?
We are committed to strengthening student self-governance and leadership on the individual chapter and governing council levels. Our office team also serves as the University liaison to alumnae, alumni, and chapter headquarters’ staff.
