When do you get the AdBlue warning on your car?
We got the same AdBlue warning “your car won’t restart in 200 miles.” This is NOT an AdBlue warning. The true AdBlue warning should come much earlier, about 1500 miles. The warning in our car was a bad NOx sensor, replaced under warranty. All turned back to VW.
What happens when you run out of AdBlue?
Normal operation is for the car to start warning you that you have 1500 miles of AdBlue remaining. It will continue to warn you every time you start the car, with a revised estimate of how many miles are left. When that reaches zero, it will tell you that the car will not start again until you top off the Adblue tank.

Is there a hard reset on the AdBlue sensor?
Said I had 200 miles or so before the engine would not start. Bought 2 large containers of adblue from the stealership and filled up the tank. I read on the forums (this and others) that either the sensor would reset itself or I could perform a hard reset by turning the ignition ti run for 20 seconds to a minute.
Why does my car run out of AdBlue?
It reduces harmful emissions but if you run out, your car won’t start. Many new diesel cars use a fluid called AdBlue, also known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF, to help reduce harmful exhaust emissions. If your car uses this technology there’ll be a smaller blue filler cap for the AdBlue tank next to the main diesel filler.

What happens when the AdBlue tank is empty?
Once you’ve stopped, you won’t be able to restart the engine if the AdBlue tank’s empty. The car will give you plenty of warning that the AdBlue tank’s running low – usually a text warning on the dashboard with around 1500 miles to go followed by an amber warning light.
Where can I find AdBlue in my car?
It may also be found in the boot or under the bonnet. It’s important to understand that AdBlue’s an exhaust additive, kept in its own special tank and injected automatically in small quantities into the flow of exhaust gas. AdBlue is not a fuel additive and you will cause expensive damage if you add it to the diesel tank by mistake.
