What would make my voltage drop from 14 to 11?
First I had the battery light flash in message center and voltage was at 14.7 and took to AutoZone and replaced battery. Light was off for one day then back on. Then next day voltage was at 14.7 and stopped and started back up and I noticed the volt meter went to 11 and stayed there.
Why does the voltmeter fluctuate between 12 and 14 volts?
This will cause the voltmeter to fluctuate between 12 and 14 volts as opposed to non-regulated systems that usually maintain a more consistent reading of 14 volts. This fluctuation with the RVC system is normal system operation and NO repairs should be attempted.
What should the alternator gauge be at 14vdc?
After a few minutes, (maybe 10? not sure) the gauge went back up to 14VDC where it should be running. Again after a bit, it dropped back down to 13. Since noticing it Saturday, it has continued randomly dropping and coming back to 14.
Is it normal for battery voltage to be 14.2v?
By the way, 14.2 V is not too high when charging. That is normal. You said you have a tender. Disconnect your plug from the tender and connect it to a voltmeter instead. That way you can see what your hand-held voltmeter says that the car is doing.

Why does the battery gauge go back to 12 volts?
When your gauge read ~12volts and a new battery it went back to 15 volts, the old battery was overloading the alternator with an internal short. At one time I had a battery short bring it down to 9 volts and the computer went nuts. The engine back fired I just made it to a battery shop.
What makes my voltage gauge read low when the engine is running?
Oluseun, with the engine running the gauge should measure the output of your alternator. The low voltage may be indicative of issues with your alternator. If you have one of those that shows the voltage without the engine running, then check your gauge for a bad resistor on the dash panel.
What causes voltage fluctuations on a Chevy Volt?
Make sure you also check the positive battery cable for corrosion, particularly near the positive battery terminal end. That too can give you voltage flutter. You will have to get creative in removing the red cover off of the cable end. If you need a new battery cable, it is an AC-Delco or dealer part only.
Why does the voltage drop from 14 to 12?
After about 20 miles of a normal 14 volt reading it dropped again to 12 and stayed there the rest of the 80 miles home. So how or why would this never move from 14 before. Now that I was hauling a load with a camper up the hills that lead out of Phoenix, would the voltage drop to 11 or 12 and not go back up.
Why does the Volt gauge go up and down?
The voltage always fluctuates, goes up and down depending on how much current is being used by the accessories, and the engine rpm, the charge state of the battery, the ambient temperate, all affect the voltage. Fluctuation is normal, it’s like the stock market.
What’s the voltage fluctuate on the dasboard?
I slowed to a stop at a light and it went back up. Stayed at 14v for about 20 miles then dropped again. When I start it up it goes just above 14v then after a few drops right back down to around 12v. thegarage1410 Did you have any more testing done or run a crossed any other info that may give me piece of mind lol?
