What should I do if my cigertte cigarette lighter blows?
The cigertte lighter has never worked so I thought it was about time I attempted to fix this. I removed the fuse (20amp) and found it to be blown. So I thought that i’d replace with a new 20amp fuse after checking the manual and online to ensure the fuse rating is 20amp for my model/make, it blew instantly.
What happens when a fuse is blown on a cigarette lighter?
as mentioned on some other answers for blown fuses: if the fuse is blown, which usually indicates that there is a short-circuit, then replacing the fuse does not solve the short-circuit problem, and the new fuse will get blown too. – Florian Castellane Mar 22 ’17 at 14:55
Can you test for a faulty cigarette lighter?
Yes, first thing to test is for a faulty cigarette lighter assembly. Disconnect the wire from the back of it and see if that removes the short. If not the fault is “upstream” between the lighter and the fuse. Apart from a previous-owner “mod” it’s possible that the wire has been chafing against the vehicle chassis and is now bare.
What kind of power does a cigarette lighter have?
The 12v cigarette lighter is a common source for power when installing addons. I know you said your car doesn’t have any now, but it’s possible it did at some point, and then they were removed.
Why did the fuse blow on my cigarette lighter?
Recently, the fuse for the cigarette lighter blew when I put in a car charger. The fuse powers the cigarette lighter as well as the radio and I think the backlighting on the air conditioner panel. I tried replacing the fuse (15W) and it blew again when I put in the charger. This happened once or twice more.
Why does my car charger keep blowing the fuse?
It kept blowing the fuse but when I discovered it and removed it, the problem was fixed. Sounds like the car charger has a short in it. If you really, really wanted to I supposed you could test for low resistance across the charger plug. Or, perhaps try plugging it into a different car and see if it blows the fuse there.
Can a car fuse pull more than 15A?
The car is designed to have a 15A fuse, so these electrics shouldn’t pull more than 15A. Theres an issue with one of the electrical items here, or the load is too much for the given wiring. Do the job properly and run a new, fused line if necessary and don’t endanger killing the car, or someone. – Steve Oakes Aug 18 ’16 at 2:40 I figured it out.
