In terms of actual wiring, you want to use at least 14 gauge wire for the body ground (see our ground kit for more info). A braided copper ground strap is best attaching the engine to the frame. Heavy #2 gauge cable should be used to connect the battery negative terminal to the engine block or starter mounting bolt.

Where to routing power wire for trailer harness?
If you find routing the wire up through the engine compartment too difficult, you can start at the battery and work the wire down through the engine compartment. Connect the fuse holder to the positive battery terminal before installing the fuse.
How do you connect a wire to the ignition?

When did headlight wiring become part of engine compartment wiring?
From 1960 thru 1967 the headlight wiring was part of the engine compartment wiring, but that doesn’t affect anything shown here. 1964 and prior had a smaller bulkhead connector with only two plugs, but the basic circuits and the color coding are very similar from 1960 into the 1970s. An electronic ignition requires an electronic voltage regulator.
