What kind of oil to use in an air cooled engine?
That is an air cooled overhead valve engine. If yours is overhead valve, then use multigrade oil. The valve train components require this kind of oil to avoid cold-start wear. If you can’t find the manufacturer’s recommendation , use a 10W30 multigrade oil with a Service Factor of at least “E” If you are working the engine hard use SFF.
Which is the best oil cooler to buy?
P&F oil coolers are made in two major gatherings – 19mm and 37mm plate widths. P&F is the lightest in development and most proficient oil cooler concerning its range. The PWR P&F cooler is a standout amongst the most unpredictable plans available including dimpled plates and louvered balance.
Do you need an oil cooler for a TwinPort engine?
If you have a twinport engine, your standard ‘Dog house’ oil cooler will try its best to catch the cool air being directed through the tinware, which is adequate in most cases, but in the heat of summer, or with the added load of a bus on top of it, it’ll be pleased if you added an external oil cooler system to really help things out.
What kind of oil to use for cold start?
So to sum up, you can use any modern oil with a xW-40 or xW-50 viscosity, where x is anything from 0W to 20W with the lower “W” numbers providing better cold start performance. The choice of synthetic or not is entirely is entirely up to you, but I would not go to the expense. If you can fit an oil filter, it would be a good investment.

Can you use synthetic oil on air cooled VW?
Things like bearings, especially, will not operate at as high of a temperature as a result. The wider range of temperatures that synthetic oil can withstand is well suited for the air-cooled VW engine. With head temperatures normally between 300-350 degrees, synthetic will not breakdown while lubricating the valve train components at the heads.
