What is tophi in the ear?
Tophus on Pinna. Tophaceous gout presents as irregularly shaped deposits under the skin and often present on the ear. They are very painful to compression. Cut surfaces will have a white, chalky appearance.

Tophi will usually present as a painless visible or palpable soft tissue masses with whitish or yellowish deposits; overlying skin may be pulled taut (Figure 1). Occasionally, a tophus may become inflamed and painful.
How can I reduce Tophi?
Tophi can become infected, cause pain and lead to reduced function. Tophi can be treated with urate-lowering drugs (e.g. benzbromarone, probenecid, allopurinol, febuxostat, pegloticase, lesinurad), surgical removal or other interventions.
Does gout make you smell?
This is the first study to examine quantitatively whether the sense of smell, which is very sensitive to a range of diseases, is impacted by gout.
