What is the H and C gauge on a car?
C is for Cool and H is for Hot. Some cars have numbers instead of a C or H. The numbers represent temperature of the coolant. If the gauge does not get up to the middle, the coolant and engine temperature are too cold and your engine will not be burning fuel efficiently.
Why does the fuel gauge go to full H?
Turn the key on (no engine start) and if the wiring/connectors/etc are good then you should see the temp gauge go to full H. That would point to a failed temp sender and the same thing could be done with the fuel tank sender and fuel gauge. Offhand, I don’t see that this is your fault at all.
What should I do if my temp gauge goes full H?
You might locate the temp gauge sending unit, disconnect the wire, and ground it to metal somewhere. Turn the key on (no engine start) and if the wiring/connectors/etc are good then you should see the temp gauge go to full H. That would point to a failed temp sender and the same thing could be done with the fuel tank sender and fuel gauge.
Why is the temperature gauge on my car not working?
When I added a couple gallons of fuel, the gauge didn’t budge. Once on the road, I realized that the engine temperature gauge was also dead – no change on the gauge after 10 miles. So I have two non-functioning gauges which failed on my watch.
Where is the water temp gauge on a 6cyl?
On the water temp gauge there will be a red wire with a white stripe that goes to the water temp sending unit, located towards the front of the intake manifold on a V8 and towards the rear of the cylinder head on a 6cyl. There will be a white wire with a red stripe going to the oil pressure sending unit, down near the oil filter.
What’s the best way to check the oil temperature?
It won’t do any good and is only putting premature wear on the car. The best way to get a car’s oil temperature up is to simply drive it around for a few minutes. Ideally you’d have an oil temperature gauge to tell you when it’s at operating temperature – and oil pressure gauge (lower pressure) would also tell you this information.
Why is oil temperature important to your engine?
One of the things you will find if you have a oil pressure or temperature gauge is that regardless of the fact that oil is running through your engine and cooling it just like the coolant – it takes on and loses heat differently than coolant.
Which is better oil temperature or coolant temperature?
However, it takes much longer for oil to come up to temperature than coolant. When you start your car in the morning, most of us are wise enough to not romp on the car until the coolant gauge is up to operating temperature. This is certainly better than romping on it cold, but it’s still not quite ideal.
Is it bad to run an engine with a low oil temp?
In all engines, the engine’s clearances are significantly tighter, creating extreme amounts of stress on the engine’s internals and the piston rings will not have properly sealed with oil temps too low. In short – it’s really bad for your engine to run it hard until it’s OIL is completely warmed up. Coolant temperature is a false indicator.
