Is the CPI revised?
Seasonally adjusted data, including the U.S. city average all items index levels, are subject to revision for up to 5 years after their original release. Every year, economists in the CPI calculate new seasonal factors for seasonally adjusted series and apply them to the last 5 years of data.
Does the CPI base year change?
Currently, the reference base for most CPI indexes is 1982- 84=100 but some indexes have other references bases. The reference base years refer to the period in which the index is set to 100.0. In addition, expenditure weights are updated every two years to keep the CPI current with changing consumer preferences.
