According to Cave Johnson, Conversion Gel is made from ground-up moon rocks, which make a great portal conductor. This is shown when Chell fires a portal at the moon near the end of the game, despite the non-flat surface of the moon.
What is repulsion gel?
Repulsion Gel is a light blue substance that repels objects, and any player or object that hits a surface coated with Replusion Gel will bounce off. Objects such as Storage Cubes and Turrets can be covered in Repulsion Gel, which causes them to bounce around erratically.
What is propulsion Gel?
Propulsion Gel is a bright orange substance that greatly reduces the friction of objects moving across the surface to which it is applied. Propulsion Gel also increases velocity, as objects covered in Propulsion Gel also have their friction reduced, causing them to slide around and be moved more easily.

Where does the gel go in Portal 2?
The gel comes out of the orange portal at just the right angle and position to send it through the blue portal a second time, with a different angle. The gel exits through the orange portal again, but with a new angle, landing in a new spot. Using this, a large amount of the room can be painted, but to no actual use.
Where to paste the Blue Portal in Portal 2?
Here you paste the blue portal on the ground under the orange gel dispenser and turn the orange gel on again. The orange fluid covers the whole hallway on the other side of the room. Jump through the blue portal back over there and use the momentum you get from the orange gel to jump over the ledge there.
