What is an ETC switch?
#2 ยท Jul 10, 2016. When the throttle cable is properly adjusted, the switch kills power to the cdi box when you let go of the throttle and the throttle doesn’t return to the idle position. In other words, it detects a stuck throttle situation and shuts the ignition off. Mark.
Is the throttle set to low on a Polaris?
As far as the idle being set to low, that’s not a problem- as long as I touch the throttle and take up the small amount of freeplay (1/16″) it idles fine, before I ever move the throttle cable. I just don’t like the fact that when I stop I cannot take my thumb off the throttle or the bike dies.
Where is the safety switch on a Polaris?
They kill the engine when they touch as a safety feature to keep the throttle from becoming stuck wide open. Follow the throttle cable down about three inches out of the etc box and you will see a little bulge in the cable. That bulge is where you adjust it.
Why did my Polaris ATV run out of gas?
I siphoned out and put in new gas, tried running it with the tank cover off to see if my vent was clogged. I pulled my fuel line to the carb and started it, when I gave it throttle it pumped more gas so I know it has gas to the carb. It seemed to run the same with the line pulled, until the remaining gas in the carb ran out.
What was the problem with the cams on the Polaris 500?
The cams in the 425s and 500s of that era had a problem with the oil journals in them. The result was excessive wear to the lobes. I have replaced many of these cams, and the new design has extra oil journals and they are larger.
