What is an Actfl test?
The ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) is a web-based, proctored, standardized test of the global assessment of functional writing ability in a language. ACTFL writing tests assess writing proficiency in terms of the ability to write effectively and appropriately for real-life writing purposes.
Who can take Actfl test?
The ACTFL OPI & WPT SOBL assessments are appropriate for high school juniors and seniors (grades 11 & 12). The Seal of Biliteracy forms target the proficiency range of Novice Low to Advanced Mid.
What are the five Actfl levels of proficiency?
For each skill, these guidelines identify five major levels of proficiency: Distinguished, Superior, Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice. The major levels Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice are subdivided into High, Mid, and Low sublevels.
How do I become Actfl certified?
Attend an ACTFL OPI or MOPI Workshop. Apply for OPI certification within 30 days (see Submitting an Application section below) Demonstrate one’s language proficiency as evidenced by an official ACTFL OPI in the language of certification (Personal OPI) Prepare and submit recorded interviews and rating rationales.

How much does the ACTFL cost?
There are no annual fees, no set-up charges, and no minimum quantity required. When paid by the institution, pricing follows a tiered structure, ranging from $5-$10 per test. Alternatively, students may purchase directly for $15 and their scores will still be reported to their institution via the LTI Client Site.

Developed from the Federal Government’s ILR scale by ACTFL, the ACTFL proficiency scale has four main levels (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Superior). The ACTFL scale provides a great deal of definition, especially at the lower levels of proficiency usually achieved in foreign language learning.
Does ACTFL expire?
ACTFL OPI Tester Certification is awarded for a four-year period. OPI Testers may re-certify under three different “tracks.” The recertification requirements differ from track to track.
