What is a soundcard interface?
Technically speaking, a sound card is an audio interface, but its limited sound quality and minimal I/O make it less than ideal for recording. Many sound cards only have a consumer-grade stereo line level input, a headphone output, and possibly also a consumer-grade stereo line level output.

How do I test my SignaLink USB?
Verify that the SignaLink USB’s PWR LED is ON. If it is not, then make sure that the SignaLink USB’s PWR switch is pressed in and the USB cable is securely connected to the computer and the SignaLink. If the PWR indicator still won’t turn ON, then try changing USB cables, USB ports, or using a different computer.
Do I need a soundcard if I have an audio interface?
Do I need a sound card if I have an audio interface? No. Since an Audio Interface is technically a Sound Card, just in a different format and with more I/O capabilities, etc., you don’t need to have a sound card in your computer if you already own an Interface.
Is SignaLink a TNC?
Configuration for HF Winmor digital communication will be described in a future page. The Winmor mode requires a TNC like the SignaLink USB, a stand-alone soundcard modem, a computer sound card hookup.
Should I buy external sound card?
If you’re willing to spend the time and money to get the right card and equipment, they are definitely worth the improved sound. If you stand more on the casual side of things, the onboard audio that comes with your motherboard will most likely be more than enough for your gaming or music needs.

- In the new window that opens, select “Computer Sound card” from the Type drop-down menu. Note that this selection is for the type of interface being used.
- Select “USB Audio Codec” in both the Input and Output drop-down menus.
