A ballast is a crucial component of your entire headlight system. Its primary purpose is to control the intensity of your car headlight. It also controls the intensity of the bulbs so that they are not using up all your power.
How do I know if my LED ballast is bad?
If your fluorescent lighting is displaying any of the signs below, it could be a symptom of a bad ballast:
- Flickering.
- Buzzing.
- Delayed start.
- Low output.
- Inconsistent lighting levels.
- Switch to an electronic ballast, keep lamp.
- Switch to an electronic ballast, switch to a T8 fluorescent.

What happens when you turn off the headlight?
However, as the bulb ages, it may shut off (drop its arc) more often. That can happen as many as 30 times per minute. When that occurs, the ballast tends to overheat. To protect itself, the ballast itself will shut down. It will not reset itself. The ballast can only be reset by turning the headlight switch off and then on again.
