What does a performance mass air flow sensor do?
Your vehicle’s mass air flow sensor (also called “MAF”) works by heating up a thin wire to check the volume of air entering the engine. On the other side, your vehicle’s computer calculates the electrical resistance by seeing how long it takes for the passing air to cool down that same wire.

Carefully remove the sensor from the air duct and disconnect the electrical connector. Spray 10 to 15 spurts of the mass air flower cleaner onto the wire or plate. Don’t scrub the parts; you may break the wire or damage the plate. Allow the MAF sensor to dry completely before reinstalling it in the air duct.

What can cause a Mazda air flow sensor to fail?
