What happens if you don’t lubricate an oil filter?
The oil filter cleans the oil from contaminants and then releases it into the engine so it can circulate through the moving parts to lubricate them and collect heat. If the oil filter isn’t releasing the motor oil into the engine, the parts will suffer and your engine will sputter.

Can I use an oil filter twice?
Yes, it’s perfectly safe to use either type of filter with either type of oil. If you practice extended drain intervals using synthetic oil, however, a conventional oil filter may not offer the required service life, meaning you’ll have to change it in the middle of the oil drain interval, which is inconvenient.
How much oil is in an oil filter?
As with mileage intervals between oil changes, consult your owner’s manual for the correct weight/viscosity of the oil and how many quarts you need, sometimes listed under the heading, “capacities.” Usually, it is around 4–6 liters (1.1–1.6 gallons).
