What are the different types of fuel pumps?
Fuel pumps come in a variety of designs. In the most general terms, you can choose between mechanical, belt-drive, and electric (inline and in-tank) pumps. How is an electric fuel pump different from a mechanical fuel pump?
In comparison to the mechanical fuel pump, the electric fuel pump pumps gas to the fuel injection system at a much higher pressure. Because of this they are found in most new or newer cars as opposed to the mechanical fuel pump.
Where is the fuel pump in a car?

Keep an eye on your car’s main fuel filter. Most fuel pumps have a filter to prevent dirt or debris from getting into the pump itself, but here we’re talking about the traditional external fuel filter. It’s focused on keeping dirt from getting into the engine in the first place.
