Is the sprinter 2002-2006 SprintShift general question?

We have a classic Hymer motorhome based on a 1992 Mercedes 410D which we want to update with a 2002-2006 416 Sprinter based Hymer. Never willingly bought an auto or semi auto vehicle but for our next motorhome fancy having one as modern traffic becomes denser with more stop start, which raises a general question about the Sprintshift system.

Who is the manufacturer of the Mercedes Sprinter?

The system is not actually Mercedes Benz but actually manufactured by Magnetti Marelli that well known Italian company….. They supply the system identical in everyway to more than Mercedes Benz manufacturers such as Ferrari Alfa Romeo (selespeed) VW (shiftmatic).

Where to go on a SprintShift sprinter 410D?

The 410D ends up screaming to keep up any form of momentum on the very steep grades, and it’s up the very steep grades that some of the best locations are. We also intend to spend time travelling in eastern European mountains soon too, some of the gradients there are a little scary without enough torque.

Is there a problem with the sprint shift box?

I have a 316cdi with sprint shift, the problem is that occasionaly it will jump out of gear, this only happens when pulling away and therefore only when in first gear. The rest of the time the box behaves and has no other faults.
