Leaders of Philadelphia’s children’s museum doubted that enough visitors would turn out to cover operating costs. After planning for a September reopening, Philadelphia’s children’s museum now says it will stay closed at least through Jan. 1, 2021.
Can you bring food into the Please Touch Museum?
Eating in the Museum exhibit areas is prohibited. Guests may eat in the Café or in designated areas. Help keep our Museum clean by using trash cans. Please follow all instructions by Museum staff.
What age is Please Touch Museum for?
Generally, the Museum is best for children from about six months through age 8. We have created fun learning environments for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and early elementary-age children.
What was the Please Touch Museum before?
Built as the art gallery for the 1876 Centennial Exposition, it is the only major structure from that exhibition to survive. It subsequently housed the Pennsylvania Museum of Industrial Art (now the Philadelphia Museum of Art). Since October 18, 2008, the Hall has served as home to the Please Touch Museum.

ACCESS cardholders are invited to visit the Museum at the deeply discounted rate of $2 per person and need to present their valid ACCESS Card along with photo ID upon arrival at the Museum. If you would like to park in our gated lot during your visit, please purchase parking during the reservation process.

Founded in 1976 by Montessori educator Portia Sperr, Please Touch Museum began as a 2,200-square-foot pilot project nestled among the dinosaur skeletons and woolly mammoths in the Academy of Natural Sciences on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
