Is the AWD coupler on my Hyundai Santa Fe failing?
: Hyundai Anyone have experience with AWD couplers failing on 2010 Santa Fe? Symptoms are a clunk sometimes when turning left from stop. Already replaced this once under warranty a year ago (20K kms). Now it is doing it again, this time out of warranty fix will be at least $2000.
Where can I get a new coupling for my Santa Fe?
I live in Winnipeg and took a trip “down east”. On our way back we had a problem when i tried turning from stop, and reversing, as it was making a loud noise and shaking the vehicle. A dealership in Minneapolis had the coupling and replaced it. I am concerned about what damage has been done to the transmission or to the rear drive “parts”.
When did Hyundai update their AWD coupler design?
Hyundai has told me that in early 2015 they “updated” the part with a design to deal with these frequent failures. Fingers crossed that this has dealt with it. So excited to bring home 2020 Kona Highlander (Ultimate) AWD Turbo. My first Hyundai and super impressed.

What happens when a coupling is replaced on a Santa Fe?
If the coupling has been replaced and you no longer feel any shaking or binding there will be no lasting effect from the problem. These parts are very tough (think about the weight of the vehicle in all road conditions) so any shaking, binding, jarring from the faulty coupling would not damage other components.
