Nepal joined BIMSTEC on 8 February 2004. The Sixth BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting held in Thailand in 2004 decided to hold the Summit every two years as far as possible. So far, four Summits have been held in 2004, 2008, 2014 and 2018 respectively. The Fourth BIMSTEC Summit was held in Kathmandu on 30-31 August 2018.
