Is building a hackintosh worth it?
If you have plenty of time to play with it, I would say go for it. But if you just need your machine to do work and cannot afford having a computer that may suddenly stop working (and requiring a lot of time to get it going again), just save your time/money and buy an actual apple device.

Yes, its possible. But, issue is that iPhone SDK gets frequent updates and requires updated version of Mac OS X – updating hackintosh is pain (you can do better development on MacMini instead of wasting time to upgrade) and you will never know when your hackintosh will be unbootable!
