The capacity varies by model but for most Softails and Dynas this amount is about 9 to 10 oz. If using Harley brand fork oil then type “B” or “E” is recommended depending on the model. The alternative product for those who require superior performance is Shock Therapy #10 Fork Oil which can be used in place of either type oil.
Can you get oil out of front forks?
You don’t have to remove the front forks; you can get the oil out with the forks in place by pumping the slider on the tube and letting it dribble out over night. The may be a drop or two of the old oil remaining but not enough to be concerned about.

What kind of oil do I use on my Forks?
My forks (’07 E.Glide) are just a tad softer now than with the factory oil. Dives more on braking, but sucks up the chatter bumps better.

How do you change oil in a Harley?
Drain the oil from each fork into a suitable drain pan. Clean up any spilled oil before proceeding. Reinstall just one of the two removed drain plugs. Attach an air suspension pump to the air valve for the front forks. Gently apply pressure to assist with further fork oil drainage. Disconnect the pump when fluid no longer drains from the fork.
