How does the electric choke work?
Electric choke draws current all the time the ignition is “on”, which expands the bimetallic coil and keeps the choke open; when you shut the engine off, the coil cools down, contracts, and closes the choke. If you switch the key on and wait a minute before you crank it, the choke will already be open.
How do you bench test an electric choke?
Check from red plug to ground to be sure you have power first. Your photo shows the choke in it’s cold or closed position. When you work the throttle the fast idle cam (other side of the carb) should rotate into the fast idle position. Turn the ignition on and wait a minute…..now work the throttle again.
How do you wire an electric choke?
For electric choke hookup, attach the bayonet end of the long electrical lead supplied to the positive terminal on the choke cap. The other end must be connected to an ignition activated 12-volt source. The distributor side of the ignition coil is NOT a 12- volt source. It is a 7-9-volt source after cranking.
What to do if your electric choke is not working?
First make sure your getting 12 volts at the solenoid when the choke is activated at the key. If no voltage or low voltage find out why. If good voltage then disconnect the solenoid and check it with an ohm meter to make sure there is no break in the windings inside the solenoid. There should be a small ohm reading if it is ok less than 1 ohm.
How long does it take to remove choke from moped?
Start and run the bike (fast tickover is fine) for at least 5 minutes. (This should ensure that the choke plunger is fully extended) Switch off the engine and *quickly* remove the moped choke unit.
Why is the choke on my scooter not working?
It’s not working! There are 2 possible reasons for the unit not to work. Either the choke unit itself is faulty, or there is a problem with the power supply to it.
Why is my mercury 115 choke not working?
2000 mercury 115 2 stoke. when I push the key in the choke not working. It is very hard to start. Check out your choke solenoid. First make sure your getting 12 volts at the solenoid when the choke is activated at the key. If no voltage or low voltage find out why.

How can I test the choke on my moped?
If you don’t have a multimeter you can test the choke by removing it from the bike and connecting it directly to a fully charged moped battery using suitable wires (be careful not to short the wires together!). It doesn’t matter which way round the wires are connected to the battery.
