How do I fix my dirt bike kill switch?

How do I fix my dirt bike kill switch?

Try unplugging the connections (probaby under the gas tank) and re-plugging them back in. You can try spraying contact cleaner or even WD-40 into the kill switch if it’s not totally sealed. That will knock off any incidental corrosion. If all of that doesn’t work, a new switch is about $14-15.

How does a kill switch work on a motorcycle?

A kill switch is wired to the ignition coil (the part of the motorcycle that sends a spark through a spark plug wire to the spark plug and sparks the engine). The switch breaks the ground circuit in the ignition coil so that the coil no longer has a positive and a ground.

How does a small engine kill switch work?

A “kill switch” is normally used in reference to small engine systems like dirt bikes, chain saws, and snowmobiles. These kill switches work by either grounding out the ignition to chassis ground or interrupting the ignition supply voltage so there is no spark.

What should the ohms be on a Honda Trail CT90?

Measure the Ohms between Green ground wire to the engine block, chassis, and battery grounds. You should measure about 1/2 to 2 Ohms, but not more than about 3. Less is more here. If higher than 3, service the ground wiring, block bolts, and chassis connections. The ignition coil and engine block MUST be grounded to the Green CDI wire.

Why does my Honda CT90 not have a spark?

Could be the ignition key. Might be the run-stop switch. You might also trim a quarter of an inch off the spark plug wire and reattach the plug cap and try again for a spark. There are coil wiring continuity tests looking for general amounts of resistance between the coil wires.

Which is more prone to fail CT110 or stator?

The CT110 CDI module is more prone to fail than the stator. You can replace it with a cheap clone CDI module as a test. I have written and illustrated on the yahoo group about this. The ignition coil is least prone to fail. If you Ohm out the primary, look for low resistance in the 2 Ohm range. The secondary will read several thousands of Ohms.

Why is the spark plug on my Honda CT90 not working?

InventorPardue wrote: Most common problem with a no spark deal is the spark plug. New ones have been known to not spark. Next is the spark plug boot. The spark plug wire where the the spark plug boot screws on the wire is prone to corrosion and erosion. Snip the wire back to reveal clean bright wire, and replace the boot.

Is the Kill Switch on an outboard Yamaha?

This particular kill switch is from a Yamaha outboard. but they’re identical in principle on across all outboard brands.

Why is my outboard kill switch not working?

Obviously it’s this gunk and this evaporated two-stroke oil which is the fuel that’s left the oil behind that’s gums it up. Right, if I pull the kill switch out on this now, it will stop as normal.
