How can I tell if my coolant hoses are leaking?
For leaks that are emanating from the ends of the hose, check the clamp tightness as well as the hose underneath that section. The underhood inspection is a reliable way to check your hoses. After all, most of them are readily accessible in the engine compartment (and we again remind you to perform the check on a cold, not hot, engine.)
What happens when the lower coolant hose breaks?
As all of these issues occur, small cracks in the rubber develop and get worse over time. Ultimately, the hose can split and leak, or form a mushy blister which can burst at any point. A typical lower coolant hose, with an internal spring to prevent hose collapse due to suction from the engine’s water pump.
How do you change the oil cooler hose?
You may find just a single line or a dual line, depending on the type of vehicle you own. Slide a drain pan underneath the oil cooler hose connection on the radiator side. Use a wrench to loosen the coupling, turning in a counterclockwise direction.
Can a hot load cause an intake leak?
If the condition worsens and it’s ignored for long enough, a combination of advanced ignition timing, hot weather, and heavy load can actually burn a hole right through your piston top, so this is one of those problems that’s better reckoned with sooner than later. An intake leak sucks. But it doesn’t have to.

Is the lower radiator hose hot or cold?
The upper radiator hose is extremely hot, the lower radiator hose is cold. The thermostat has been replaced 3 times now. They have all been put in boiling water, and they all opened. The car has been parked on an inclined and filled with coolant, been jacked up and filled, we’ve used the cap to vent, we’ve used the bleeder to vent.

Why does my car’s water pump keep overflowing?
I just got home from replacing the water pump. The car still overheats. Again, upper hose hot, lower cold. The radiator is cold by the lower hose, then warm in an arc around the cold section, then hot along the top and on the entire passenger half of the radiator. Radiator fluid overflowed the overflow.
What happens when you put a Jeep Wrangler in water?
A Jeep’s engine cylinders normally compress air as it works. When the engine gets water in it, the water gets compressed and can cause catastrophic damage when the piston tries to compress the water. Can a hydro-locked engine be fixed? Can a hydro-locked engine be fixed? Yes, the engine can be fixed but it could cost you a whole lot.
What should I do if my radiator hose is leaking?
Radiator hoses. These reinforced rubber tubes degrade over time and tend to leak at the joints where they attach to the engine and the radiator. Replace a hose right away if it looks swollen, or if it feels soft and squishy. The hose could burst while you’re driving. Check the hose clamps, too! Water pump.
Where is the air intake on a Jeep Wrangler?
The biggest risk to your Jeep when fording water is getting water inside of air intake. The factory air intake is located behind the passenger headlight and above the fender well. When you drive your Jeep in the water, you need to prevent water from going into the air intake horn.
How can I tell if my coolant reservoir is leaking?
Then when the engine cools, some coolant in the reservoir goes back into the engine. The reservoir is not usually pressurized, but check to see if it’s leaking, or if the tubes that connect the reservoir to the radiator may be leaking. There are always minimum and maximum marks on the side of the reservoir to indicate the correct coolant level.
