Does Cobb lock your ECU?
Cobb said that they don’t lock the ecu. They said that they ADDED the option for Protuners because Protuners had asked them to do it. Sounds like you already know that though.
Can you use a Cobb tuner on any car?
Each Accessport is only compatible with certain vehicles. With many platforms, it can even be specific vehicles through specific model year ranges. Simply visit cobbtuning.com and configure your vehicle at the top of the page and click “view products.” You will then see all compatible parts.
Are tunes Vin locked?
SCT and Diablosport devices VIN lock (marries) to a single vehicle. You can only change vehicles 5 times before the unit is permanently locked. To reset the changes or unlock the device, you will need to contact the manufacturer directly. Service charges do apply.
How do you unlock the Cobb map?
Steps to Save
- When you’re finished with the map go into the save menu. OPTIONAL STEP:
- Select “Unlock for Accesstuner” this allows anyone to open the map (or only the person with the serial number you select if you choose to lock it to a specific Accessport)
How much does Cobb charge to Unmarry?
Cobb can unmarry an AP for $325, so add that to what people charge for used married APs and there isn’t usually much value there. Married Cobbs are sold by people who forget to unmarry them before selling, or total the car or don’t want to lose the map on the car when selling it, or selling the AP.
What Cobb map should I use?
Maps designated with “98” are for use with 98 RON fuel or better. Maps designated with “95” are for use with 95 RON fuel or better. Each maps lists the minimum required octane. A higher octane fuel can be used safely on a map designed for lower octane.
Does the Cobb Accessport have to be plugged in all the time?
The Accessport does not need to be plugged into the vehicle for the calibration to be in effect. You can disconnect the Accessport at this time or leave it plugged in to use any of the many features outlined below. Please note that the Accessport is designed to work with only one vehicle at a time.
Why is my OBD2 not communicating with my ECU?
If you ARE getting power, then options are: Break in the harness between the OBD2 connector and the ECU. One of the pins in the connector is pushed back into the housing, or bent out of shape, so far that your tool’s OBD2 cable can’t make contact. This is easy to do with a probe if you’re not careful.

If that is the case, you have a few options: Uninstall the Previous Tune – The best option is to use the original tuning source to revert the ECU to a stock ROM. That should allow the Accessport to recognize and flash the ECU.

There is a long list of potential reasons why an Accessport may have trouble communicating with a car’s ECU when attempting to complete a flash. A few of those are sometimes related to a problem with the Accessport, but the vast majority of the time the issue lies somewhere between the Accessport and the ECU.
What causes corrosion on a Cobb Accessport cable?
Make sure there is no corrosion or damage to any of the pins inside the Accessport or the cable. Corrosion can spread from the connections to the board and ruin the entire unit. **Note to Northerners – Stop letting the AP dangle to the floorboard when it’s snowy. Wet floor-mats are the number one cause of corrosion on the cable 🙂
