Do outboard motors need winterized?
If you want your engine to start in the spring and last you many years and plan on not using your engine all winter, you do have to winterize an outboard motor. Winterizing the engine helps to prevent damage during disuse, which is the chief cause for engine failure. Failing to winterize may lead to complications.
Why do I lose power on my outboard?
Make sure your tank is ventilated properly. It may have a partial restriction over time not allowing as much air to enter the tank as fuel leaving the tank. When this happens it will typically idle fine, take off okay then quickly lose rpms to equalize air inflow with fuel outflow. If it is completely blocked it will run then die.

Why is my boat losing power at full throttle?
Unfortunatly it was pissing gas out of the top of the carb so I pulled it off and gave it a good cleaning. I got the float and needle de-gunked and it runs like a dream. This morning I took the boat out to see how it would run. It goes great at idle and mid-throttle but when you open it up it takes off and then boggs down.
What causes a boat engine to go bad?
If you don’t, a clogged filter will seem like a minor issue. Prevention: It’s possible to buy a bad load of fuel, but it’s more likely that the fuel went bad while in your boat. Leaving a tank near empty for long periods of time can cause condensation and water in the gas.
