Why is the lift gate not working on my Subaru Outback?
It looks as if the tailgate hinge welds did not fully occur in the factory so it has twisted the tailgate. Inside button does not lift back door. Intermittently, the lift gate will not open when depressing outside button on lift gate or the remote. If any doors are open you cannot open lift gate, even using the remote or outside button.

Pull down the rear gate until it starts to close automatically. The system will be initialized once the gate is fully closed. Check that the power rear gate operates correctly. If the above fails then I would try disconnecting the battery.

I’d say once or twice a week after I park, open the door and then press the button to raise the tailgate, I get three beeps and the tailgate pops up about an inch. Completely dead battery can still open the rear hatch to get out the jumper cables. No the Subaru Crosstrek does not have a power liftgate on any trim level or any year of the vehicle. If You want a Subaru that has a power liftgate You’re going to want to take a look at the Foresters. They will have a power lift gate and a bit more power under the hood also.

How to unlock the rear gate on a Subaru Forester?
