Can you start a propane forklift with starting fluid?
When I’ve run into this, I use ether starting fluid – just a quick squirt always worked. The intake valves can get burned over time in a propane engine, and that reduces the engine intake vacuum when you’re trying to start it. The reduced vacuum doesn’t open the propane regulator, so it can’t start.
What causes a propane forklift to backfire?
Backfires only when loaded: Loose-fitting valves, spark plug wiring issues, leaks in carburetor diaphragm. Backfires on idle: Too lean of an air/fuel ratio (in a propane engine), loosely connected or malfunctioning alternator, or bad connections on your caps and rotors.
How do you adjust the idle on a propane forklift?
Idle Adjustment Procedure
- At idle, CO in the exhaust pipe should be between 0.4% and 0.7%.
- Turning the idle mixture screw in (richer) will raise the CO.
- Turning the idle screw out (leaner) will lower the CO.
Is starting fluid bad for propane engines?
The simple answer: In small doses and used properly, it can be effective in hard-starting gasoline engines. But it can be bad for two-stroke or diesel engines.
Can a propane engine flood?
Propane is a stable fuel; it doesn’t go bad if you don’t use it! Also, you cannot “flood” a propane engine. When a gasoline engine “floods,” raw fuel enters the cylinders, washing past the rings and into the oil, also wetting the plugs.
Can a Hyster propane forklift be cranked?
Hyster propane forklift won’t start but able to crank. A discussion in Forkliftaction’s forum Design & Engineering HI! I have an old hyster and spend a lot of money to get it fix but the mechanic couldn’t fix it.
Why does my forklift not start with propane?
If there’s an issue with the solenoid, the fuel will not be able to flow and the forklift won’t start. Some common reasons that a fuel solenoid won’t work include: Broken wires; Debris from a plugged fuel filter; Bad sensor or code from the ECU; Bad fuel solenoid
Why is my Hyster forklift not firing up?
Turned out the little relief valve in the propane line (the little brass nipple that’s by the tank usually by the bulkhead fitting/filter and usually has a small plastic cap on it) was bad. Replaced it and the truck fired right up. Word of warning to the original poster.
What to do if your forklift cranks over but doesn’t start?
If you do not have voltage at this point check the ignition circuit thru the ignition switch, fuses, and wire harness connections. If you have voltage at the positive post of coil move your test probe to the negative side of the coil. Now crank the engine over. You should see your test light blink on and off as the engine turns over.
