Can you shift from neutral to 1st gear?
If you don’t want to pull the plates you could lay the bike on the clutch side and I think that the oil would pool in the clutch area and maybe soak your plates. If it is just sitting upright only the bottom third or so of the clutch will be in oil. Can you shift from neutral into gear give the bike some gas and take off?

Is it safe to start a bike without the clutch?
If you ride off road you should know how to start and stop your bike without the clutch. It’s tricky but it can be done. Probably the safest way would be to get a rolling start in neutral jump on the bike start it and shift into gear. Almost like a push start. (You must log in or sign up to reply here.)

How can you tell if your clutch is bad on a motorcycle?
If they get stuck apart, your gears aren’t going to lock together and you won’t be able to get it in gear. Another sign to look for is if your gear shifts are hard. This means you hear an unpleasant clunking sound and may even feel a bit of a jerk coming from the bike when you are shifting during a ride.

When do you go from neutral to 1st gear?
Hard to avoid somewhat of a clank or slight jerk when going from neutral to 1st. There is always some slack between the transmission shaft and the gear internal splines. Slack between the gears, slack here and there, even though it is just a few thousandts of an inch will all add up to a small “clunk”.

Why does my motorcycle clutch not shift gears?
If you can’t get the motorcycle to shift into certain gears and your gear shift lever by your foot just goes up and down freely, your clutch is bad. This is due to the clutch being stuck or seized altogether which in turn doesn’t let you change gears.
