Can oil on starter cause it to fail?
Yes an oil leak can kill the starter especially if it is getting inside the casing and coating the commutator and the brushes. Also if it’s getting inside the solenoid it can cause issues with not allowing full voltage.

07 Street Glide is pretty straight forward, the need to remove the primary was gone when the 6 spd arrived in 06 dyna’s and 07 up bikes, remove the battery cables, unplug the solenoid wire and remove the two bolts and depending on exhaust you may have some brackets on the front or both bolts, simply pull the starter out after that.

Where does oil leak on Electra Glide Classic come from?
Ok here’s the dealI have an 01 electra glide classic There is oil driping from behind the primary, not much it does drip my garage floor tells me so. It looks as if it runs from some were behind the primary and it gathers at the drain plug on the primary. I changed out the plug but stii it drips.
