Can ceramic tiles be used as trivets?
Well, we never ended up installing a tile backsplash, but I DID keep those tiles. For years, I’ve used them as trivets to protect our table from hot serving dishes. Cheap and easy. These decorated tiles can be used as trivets OR as artwork if you place them in a decorative plate holder.

Can you paint a trivet?
Let the face of the trivet completely dry before you paint the sides. Hold the trivet like a frisbee and paint around the edge to get the coloured rim pictured. You’ll want to let it dry once you’ve gone all the way round and then flip it over and paint the edge again.
Can you use Mod Podge on trivets?
Make sure to dry it well, too, so it is a beautifully clean surface. Turn the trivet where the usable side is facing down on the table and the side that used to have the rubber feet on is up. Brush a thin, uniform layer of Mod Podge onto the trivet. Let the trivet dry for a while, about 10 or so minutes.
How thick should a trivet be?
I consider ¾” to be the minimum thickness for trivets. Wood thicknesses up to 1 ½” work but we have to remember that as the depth of the cuts increase, safety becomes an issue.
